Obama vs. McCain

In the Presidential Election of 2008, we have the choice of two eligible candidates, but we can only elect one as President of the United States. In this essay you will receive facts on the two Presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain. Both of these Senators have a lot of knowledge and solutions about the issues that will face them as the next United States President. Some of the issues they will encounter during their discussions are the economy, the war in Iraq, same sex marriages, unemployment, and healthcare. Two issues that I think are the most important in this election are education and energy/oil prices, because they have affected my family in negative ways. Through these issues I have decided who is a better candidate.
School teacher do not get paid enough for all the things that they do. They educate the student, make sure the kids stay out of trouble, and sacrifice their personal time having tutorials and organizing extra curricular activities. Some schools could have better teachers if they could receive better salaries. A good teacher does not want to have a “crappy” check for all that they do for and with the kids. Other school have bad curriculum. They spend so much time teaching student how to take standardized tests, because with better test scores the school district gives the school a higher rating. With higher rating they get to keep control of their school. With this, the student does not have a “well rounded” education.
Both McCain and Obama have a lot to say about education. McCain want to support charter school and vouchers. A school voucher is also called an education voucher. It is used so that the government can pay taxes so that kids in one school district can go to a school in another. Obama also wants to support charter schools but not vouchers. On this particular subject you can see that McCain and Obama agree on supporting charter schools but not vouchers. They are both right for if we should support vouchers or if we should not support vouching. If America did support vouching then everyone would want to go to the good schools and it would take up a lot of room in the schools and cost more money which means greater taxes. But if America did not support the voucher system, good students that live in a school district where their neighborhood has low property value did not have good schools. They disserve to go to a better school.
McCain also believes that some teaches do not get paid enough for what they do for children. He thinks that the better teachers should get paid more and the not so good teachers should not get paid less. Obama also thinks that good teachers should get paid more. Senator McCain, Senator Obama and I agree that good teachers should get paid more for what they do. McCain says that bad teachers should get paid less. McCain is wrong because there should not be bad teachers teaching kids. This is the point I believe Obama was making. I am with Obama on this subject.
The last issue is energy and oil prices. In America gas prices are too high. In the last year, the price for gas has nearly doubled. It used to take only forty dollars to fill up my dad’s car; now it takes almost eighty dollars. Even forty dollars for a full tank of gas is too much. My cousin, who is twenty three, said when he started driving, gas was one dollar a gallon. In the year of 2000, the gas price was 1.27 and on 7/6/08, gas was 4.12. Gas has more that tripled in the span of 8 years. Even though gas is very useful in our day to day lives, our dependency on gas is not good. We should have alternative resources of energy like, solar, hydro, and wind. If we could find a way to harness the energy in solar, hydro, and wind energy, we would do more then save money, we would be saving the earth.
McCain has his own way of thinking. He does not want any subsides for wind and or solar power. He wants more domestic oil drilling and clean coal. Where he wants to drill. Obama wants clean coal too and he wants large subsidies for renewable energy research. Obama does not want offshore drilling either. They both support nuclear energy. I do not think that we should use nuclear energy because it is destructive. It takes years for an area to recover from nuclear activity. A few decades ago a nuclear plant exploded in Africa and to this day, people still suffer from that explosion. Even now, children are born deformed because of the nuclear explosion.
From those two issues, education and energy/oil prices, I believe it is difficult to choose one candidate over the other. The way I decided to make my choice was assisted by a quote from John McCain, “I have voted in favor for over 90% of what George Bush has proposed to congress.” So, if that does not make you vote for Obama, then you do not care for this country. I know I do

Favorite part of Thank You Ma'm

Have you ever read a stor where there were 5 different conflicts at the same time? Well thank you Ma'm had that many. I like the conflicts in the story because their are so many of them. That allows you to look at the story in many different ways. It is also good because the conflicts were hidden and because the conflicts were easy to write about. My favorite parts of conflict are man vs. self, man vs. fate, and man vs. society.

Firstly a special part of conflict in Thank You Ma'm was man vs. self. This part of conflict started all the way at the beginning. It started with Roger, the young boy in the story, running. The running symbolizes him trying to escape his problems. At the climax, of this part of conflict, roger was debating with himself weather he should run away from Ms. Luella Bates Washington Jones, the character in the story that roger tried to steel from, after she tried to trust him. A quota in the story is "He could run, run, run but he didn't."

Another type of conflict that was dificult for me at first to recognize in this story was man vs. fate. When Roger washed his face that symbolize the cleansing of the soul. The sharing of the bread represents communion. Then they shared their sins or "confessed with each other." Later Roger became a new person, I hope.

The last type of conflict in Thank You Ma'm is hidden in the setting, man vs. society. The blue Swede shoes, the shoes Roger wanted to purchase, represent society. If you did not have toes shoes you were not excepted. A this time if you do not dress a sertain way than you are not excepted. A song that shows how much Blue Swede Shoes effect the community was a song by Elvis Pressley is called "My Blue Swede Shoes."

Thank You Ma'm was short and sweet but it still contains a lot of conflicts. Each conflict with its own message. Man vs. self shows that you can not run from your self. Man vs. fate shows how to forgive yourself. Man vs. society tells you that it does not matter what other people think as long as you like how you are. Will you take the advice given to you in thank You Ma'm?

NHD Topic

I chose Franklin Delano Roosevelt for my NHD project because I am interested in WW2

This person is important to history because without their efforts Hitler might be ruling the world.

For this weeks resarch I read some of the book given to me by Ms. Thomson. I will read and summarize it for next week.

I will graduate in 2012 because...

When you were in high school did you have your future to motivate you? What about your friends? I know you family had to motvate you Because mine shure does. I will graduate in 2012 because of the three “Fs” family, friends, and future. Because of the three “Fs” I will fill forced to graduate.

The first “F”, my family, has given me tots of advice in high school. They can give me advice because they have been through high school before. My mother and father keep saying “Trey this is a new start. You have a clean slate.” My older sisters Kiana and Cherie always give me advice. They also listen to me when I need to start to someone. They always listed and know what to say.

The next “F” is my future. When I graduate in 2012 I want to go to Georgia University. With me having good grades at CHS I can make it into Georgia University. When I attend college I want to get my Degree in geology. I also want to go to Georgia because of baseball. I think they have the best college baseball team. As you can see, I love baseball. My favorite teams are between New York Yankees and the Phillies. If I had to choose between the two I would pick the Phillies.

The Most Important “F” is my friends. I always thought my best friends Will and Nate were better than me in school. Because they were at better schools then me. Now that that I am at CHS I know that is not true. I want to graduate in 2012 so that I can prove myself wrong.

There is no way I will not graduate because I have the best suppor behind me. I have my friend and family to support me. I also have my future to look foward to. I will work as hard as I can to make sure my dreams and wishes come true. I will make shure I graduate from high school, will you?

Mr. Romero I want you to grade my essay on transitions and my intro and conclusion.
